Wuala: Another Cloud Storage Service
I recently was introduced to Wuala which is another cloud storage service. The free storage starts of with 1GB with the ability to expand up to 3GB if you have friends sign up for the service. Much like Dropbox you need a client to use it. The client creates a networked drive on whatever platform you are using (I use windows at work and Linux at home so this is a nifty feature that I can take advantage of). With the networked drive it’s easy to access your files however you cannot upload to the root folder you have to upload into Documents, Music, Photos, or Videos only. You can create new folders if you wish for files that don’t quite fit into that generalized category.
Adventures in DVD Authoring in Ubuntu
I have made DVD’s before under Windows Vista using the Microsoft DVD Creator software and using Power Producer as well. But now under Linux I wanted to create DVD’s of the movies I have ripped (or downloaded) or created so that we can watch them on our DVD player or give the DVD’s as gifts for family and friends.
Do You Ubuntu? How about a Derivative?
Ubuntu is a fork of Debian Linux as we all know, however from this fork we see many derivatives. Some of you may not like the default Gnome desktop or feel the basic install is missing something. Here’s a list of 21 derivatives of Ubuntu that you may or may not know about.
The list of derivatives has been expanding more and more and I am sure I missed some. Please comment if you have any more info on others. Read the rest of this entry »
Confuse Your Bartender
When going out to the bar it’s nice to throw the bartender a loop with a drink thye may have never heard of to test their mixological skills. I always have been tempted to challenge them with a drink and if they do not know what it is they have to agree to drink it before you tell them the name of the drink. The drink I ultimately want to pull off is the Gorilla Snot. Which is the following:
- 1 shot Bailey’s Irish Cream
- 1 shot Port Wine
It’s basically the same as a Cement Mixer, but using a different name it throws them off. But seriously a good drink to really confuse the bartender is to order the maritini inspired by the Linux distribution known as Ubuntu. I present to you, the Ubutini! You can get the recipe by expanding the image on the right or get it at the Ubuntu Wiki.
If you are too lazy to click on the image or link, here’s the recipe for this drink. I so want to try it, sounds delicious. So grab your martini glasses and mix this:
- 1 oz. Vodka
- 2.5 oz. Tonic Water
- 0.5 oz. Grape Soda
- Splash of Crown Royal
Recommended:
- Grape Soda Ice Cubes
- Frozen Grapes
- Tang Crystals (for rim of glass)
