Living without Windows. And it is not Dark!

I have bit the bullet and removed the operating system known as Windows from my laptop fully. I am back up and running to where I was before when I was dual booting more or less.

Day 44 – Flip Flop

I still haven’t gone back to windows. However I found myself flip flopping between using KDE and Gnome.

I didn’t mess anything up this time under Gnome. Everything was working fine. But I decided to back up and do a clean install of Kubuntu. Everything is back up and running and nothing was really lost (except time to get everything).

So last night I loaded up some games. I love the RTS genre so I got Spring Loaded and the Evolution mod. I would really like to play the Star Wars mod but it’s closed for beta testing.

Day 29 – Sound Go Bye Bye, I go KDE

Well here is the second to last day of this experiment. And I have to say I will be staying with Linux for a while longer. I enjoy the little challenges. However one that really got me right now is my sound just up and quit. GAH!

I still have the ability to transfer stuff to my iPod with no issue, but I can’t listen to MP3′s on the laptop or even watch videos for that matter. What did I do wrong? I know I must have killed something, but I cannot find out where. BACKUP TIME! Read the rest of this entry »

Day 28 – Oooh that hit my FSpot.

Today I played with Conky a liittle more . I got way too frustrated with the weather script and gave up for now. Basically what was happening was the 2 that I found either would not work or would pull the weather from Munich, Germany and give only celsius temperatures. So I made it very  simple.

I may play with layout some more later. But for now this is what it is. Shows information I personally need to know about my machine. And of course what the time is. I think I should put the clock back on the panel because most of the work I do covers up the desktop and I always have to minimize to see what time it is. Read the rest of this entry »
